I'm a super lazy bum when it comes to updating this website. But it's not because I've been doing nothin'. Au contraire, I've ben working on my year-long series of works about time, tentatively called "The Calendar Series". I've been uploading daily posts about it over at my Instagram.
Basically the work is structured like a daily art journal, but instead of an art journal, I'm using the format of a monthly calendar as a way of composing the work. So far, I've completed January to May 2024, and now in the middle of June 2024.

So far, I think it's generally going well. I wrote a few things about the work on my IG. But because it's still a work in progress, my thoughts on it are still evolving.
Before I started the work, I didn't really think abut how it was going to appear in a visual sense. All I had was a vague idea that the work would eventually reveal itself over the course of the year, and that I just had to commit to it.
And it's definitely a commitment. I've never made an artwork like this before. Usually, I would create work during intense spurts that last for a few weeks or months, and afterwards, I would take a month-long break before moving on to the next thing.
But this series requires a steady and constant approach, and even though the individual drawings aren't that big, I find myself mentally exhausted after finishing each one daily. Maybe it's because there is no drafting process (which is also what I usually do). The first three months were fun: the ideas were just flowing out.

By April though, I felt like I had fallen in to a rut and so, in May, I decided to change my approach slightly. Where the daily drawings of January to April spilled into each other, the drawings of May stayed firmly in their respective rectangles. It was a small reset... and a little concession to myself to break the tedium of having to draw everyday ha ha ha.
For June, I decided to move away from human figures and draw watches from my collection. And I really like the June drawings... for one, they're based on real objects, and not imaginary figures. It's an interesting departure... and I think that I may carry it through to July, but that's still half a month away.
